Albuquerque, New Mexico- Air Force Academy WBB (12-14, 6-10) is set to face off against the UNM Lobos (18-9, 10-6) Feb. 21 at The Pit, and fans might spot a familiar face on AFA.
AFA guard Eva Love is a native of New Mexico, and attended La Cueva where she was one of the best hoopers in school history.
Love graduated from La Cueva in 2024, and during her senior year, she averaged 16.6 points per game along with 6.6 boards.
“It means the world to me to come back and play in the PIT, in front of my family, friends but especially my two younger siblings and my parents. It’s surreal. They are the ones who push me and get me through the many hard days that there are the Air Force Academy and playing college basketball,” Love said.
A top-five recruit per our CPS draft board, Love held offers from NMSU, UTEP, UC San Diego, UC Davis, and Pacific, before committing to AFA.
According to Love, it was very important to follow suit of those who have served, a cherry-on-top was the annual “homecoming” games at The Pit. Love has a brother, Dock Love, who plays football at La Cueva. She also has a sister, Addison Love, who players basketball at St. Pius X.
“To all the younger hoopers, believe in yourself! There will be many hard days but the only thing that matters is how hard you work especially when you’re at rock bottom,” Love said, who is one of two New Mexican natives playing for AFA, Bhret Clay is from Hobbs.
AFA is coming off an eight-point loss to Boise State Feb. 18, and have gone 4-2 in their last six games.
The Lobos defeated AFA in Colorado Springs Jan. 24, 74-57.
However, it is important to note that AFA senior Milahnie Perry did not play in that match, and Perry is the Mountain West WBB leader in points per game (17.6).
AFA-UNM is set for a 1 p.m. tipoff at The Pit.
