Silver, New Mexico- We have a ton of talent in New Mexico, and each week we want to highlight a couple of athletes to build on the already strong community that we have, here in the Land of Enchantment.

Our New Mexico Athlete Spotlight series is graciously sponsored by New Mexico Supreme Hoops: NM Supreme Sports LLC offers training, skill development, club basketball and sports events. They are also the Annual Northern Supreme Showdown basketball tournament host. Thank you, to New Mexico Supreme Hoops for supporting our page, and New Mexico athletes.

Next, in our series, we spotlighted Silver football player and thrower Kingston Lee, a freshman who already has put impressive marks while throwing the javelin, shot, and discus. Lee is also a standout quarterback who served as the varsity starter this past season. Here are the questions we asked him…

Q: What sports do you play?

A: I play football and track.

Q: What got you involved in the sports that you currently play?

A: My dad competed in track and football, and he always told me his stories of when he won state championships; I wanted to be able to experience that too.

Q: Any favorite memories during your high school career?

A: Qualifying for state track as an 8th grader, and getting to compete with the best at state. Placing 4th at Adidas nationals in the discus too. Throwing for 300 yards and 4 touchdowns as a freshman. Recently starting an FCA bible group at silver high school.

Q: Do you have a ritual or routine before you compete?

A: My routine I have, and always keep, is praying and reading my bible before I compete. This helps me remember who I compete for and why I do it.

Q: What are some of your goals for this upcoming season?

A:  Some goals I have for this upcoming season is to make a deep run in the football playoffs. In Track, a long-term goal I have is to set a new state record for the discus.

Q: What is a necessity for you at a meet or at a game? AirPods, a certain snack, anything like that?

A: I always keep my headphones on with either music or noise cancellation on so that I can focus on the task at hand. Always bring my bible with me everywhere I compete.

Q: What are some of your go-to songs to get you in the right headspace for a meet or game?

A: I usually listen to some sort of christian rap or just christian music.

Q: Besides sports, what are some things you enjoy?

A:I enjoy spending time with my family and loved ones. I love going to see new movies.

Q: After a meet or game, how do you celebrate? Sleep, go to your favorite restaurant, what do you do?

A: After a meet I usually sleep and wake up early and go back to work. There’s always something that can be done to make you better.

Q: What can people expect from your team this season?

A: We will play hard, be physical, and disciplined

Coffee tastes terrible anyway. So, don’t put anything to obstruct the harsh, bitter taste. Just put it down, one sip at a time.”
