Logan, New Mexico- We have a ton of talent in New Mexico, and each week, we want to highlight a couple of athletes to build on the already strong community that we have, here in the Land of Enchantment.

Next in our series is Logan standout Mason Wallin who is a senior who has played five sports for Logan high school. He also signed his letter of intent to play football for New Mexico Highlands University this upcoming Fall.

This post is graciously sponsored Velocity Sports Performance who encourage all athletes to trust the process. Q: What sports do you play, and what school do you attend?

A: I play football, basketball, baseball, track, and powerlifting. I attend Logan High School.

Q: What got you involved in the sports that you currently play?

A: Being from a small school, sports is a huge part of the town, and I wanted to be a part of them. Now, I love them.

Q: Any favorite memories during your high school career?

A: I have a lot of fun sports memories, mostly all 8 of my state championships. But my favorite memory was coming back in the football state championship from 31-6 at halftime to win.

Q: Do you have a ritual or routine before a game or meet?

A: Before any event I do, I drink a Starbucks double-shot expresso, and listen to some music with my headphones to get locked in.

Q: What are some of your goals for this upcoming season?

A:  My goals are to build a lot of muscle, and stay consistent, and better myself as a person for the football team.

Q: What is a necessity for you at a meet or at a game? AirPods, a certain snack, anything like that?

A: I cant go without my Skull Crusher Evos! I’m a big bass guy and those headphones have a ton of bass. So, I can’t go without them. Also, I always have a cucumber Gatorade.

Q: What are some of your go-to songs to get you in the right headspace for a meet or game?

A: Some of my go-to songs are any song by Yeat. I have listened to him since he started. I am a big Yeat guy, and I love “Through The Late Night” by Travis Scott I got to listen to that one as well.

Q: Besides sports, what are some things you enjoy?

A: I love wake surfing and fishing. We have one of the biggest lakes in New Mexico. I also enjoy working on engines. I recently built a minibike with some of the best internal parts they make for them.

Q: After a meet or game, how do you celebrate? Sleep, go to your favorite restaurant, what do you do?

A: I usually go to the Annex. It is a local restaurant in Logan. That place is so good. You got to get the green chile smothered fries!

Q: You committed to play collegiately for NMHU, what made that school the right fit for you?

A: Coach Kurt made me feel like they where going to be my new family. I was surprised by all of the athletes, how nice they where to me, and they were all so welcoming, I loved it. It made me feel like “dang, this is where I need to go.”

Q: Who are some football players or athletes that we should watch out for from Logan?

A: We have a bunch of good players coming back to the team. I’m definitely going to be coming down to watch them play. But, some players you need to look for are Kale Griffiths, Stratton Schoonover, Marshall Ortega, and my best friend, Hayden Bruhn. He is a basketball player but he is very talented, and he is definitely going somewhere!

Q: What would you tell someone who goes to a smaller school that is hoping to be in your shoes someday?

A: That if you work hard and ball out, you can do great things with your life! Don’t let your grades slip and make sure you hang out with the right crowd!

Coffee tastes terrible anyway. So, don’t put anything to obstruct the harsh, bitter taste. Just put it down, one sip at a time.”
