ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO- The start of the new year means more Mountain West hoops for us all! Our team at Couch Potato Sports (CPS) have finalized our first Mountain West Players of the Week segment for both men’s and women’s basketball.

CPS MW PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (JAN. 6)

Player of the Week (men’s)

UNM’s Tomislav Buljan

STATS (two games): 20.5 ppg, 11.0 rpg, 1 bpg, & 1 spg

INSIGHT: Last week, Buljan logged double-doubles in both of the games that UNM played. After a loss against Boise State Dec. 30, Buljan put up a masterclass against Wyoming, and put up 25 points en route to a Lobos victory. His 25 points was the most by a Lobo this season.

Freshman of the Week (men’s)

Colorado State’s Lexus Bargesser

STATS (two games): 15.5 ppg, 8 rpg, 4 apg, 1.5 spg, & 58% on 3 pointers.

INSIGHT: The Rams secured two dubs last week behind some strong performances from guard Lexus Bargesser. She filled the stat sheets in just about every category, and had 17 points and three steals in a nail-biter against Fresno State. In the game against Grand Canyon, Bargesser recorded her second double-double of the season.

UNM’s Laila Abdurraqib

STATS (two games): 10.5 ppg, 1.5 apg, 1.5 spg & 100% on FTs.

INSIGHT: Abdurraqib averaged 24 minutes a game last week, and was a reliable scorer for the Lobos who outscored their opponents by 72 points. The Lawrence Central high school alumni scored in double figures in both games, and was perfect from the free throw line. She also was a force defensively, and logged three steals against Wyoming.
