Albuquerque, New Mexico- The Colorado State Rams (19-7, 10-5) secured a road dub against the UNM Lobos (17-9, 9-6) Feb. 14 that makes them the fourth Mountain West team to log double digit wins in conference play.
The final: CSU 66, UNM 46.
Back in January, the Lobos defeated CSU while in Fort Collins. Today’s matchup went a little differently. Specifically, the Rams were especially lethal in shooting from beyond the arc. In the middle of the second quarter, the Rams were 6-for-8 on 3 pointers.
A ton of action from the zebras, and calls that resulted in a ton of free throw shots for CSU, Brooke Carlson shot 8-for-10 from the free throw line. Carslon ended her night with 12 points, a team-high seven assists, five boards, two steals, and one block.
Leading the Rams in points was sophomore guard Kloe Froebe who scored 19 points, shooting 60% on field goals.
The Rams were also able to limit Lobo sharpshooter Laila Abdurraqib who only had one 3 attempt in 14 minutes of play. In their first matchup, Abdurraqib torched the Rams for 25 points which included going 7-for-9 on 3 pointers.
A bright spot for the Lobos was senior Alyssa Hargrove who scored a team-high 12 points. Hargrove also sank the Lobos’ only two 3 pointers of the night.
With the win, CSU moves to fourth place in the current Mountain West standings (pending the outcome of Boise State-Wyoming).
As for UNM, they will hit the road for a huge conference matchup against GCU in Phoenix, Arizona (9-15, 8-6). GCU is just one game behind UNM in the current Mountain West standings.
